If you are like me, chances are that you have scrolled and watched an endless amount of tutorials and courses. Paid for things you haven’t finished and are still looking for that next thing that will make you feel “ready”.
As a freelancer, however, the best thing you can do is to just start! Email that business, write that project proposal, make that new project. Something you get excited and nervous about, and even if you think you can’t do it… Do it.
Don’t know something? Look it up! Everything you learn should support what you are currently working on. See what happens, make mistakes and make them right.
This way what you learn becomes useful immediately. I found this worked the best when I started freelancing…
…all you need is a little bit of courage. Confidence, experience and skill is something you find along the way.
At the end of the day, clients rarely choose the the best illustrator or animator in the world. They want someone who is reliable. Being on time, accountability, meeting deadlines, and communicating clearly is more important.
So don’t focus on being “ready” focus on being a good person to work with.
Whether you're ready to kick-start a project, share ideas, or simply have a question, I'm all ears.
